Happy New Year! I am sure that now that the Holidays are nearly over, the last thing you want to"hear" about is planning for next year!!! I would like to share some tips with you on preparing for next years Holidays,so that you can avoid those dreaded Holiday bills that are inevitably on their way in the mail or online! A good idea is to get an envelope and mark it HOLIDAY GIFT MONEY. Every time you are paid, put money in the envelope. Just $10 a week, with 52 weeks in a year and you have $520 saved for gifts! If you put away $20 per check you would have $1,040 !! This could really help you from having to whip out the plastic to purchase gifts! The other idea,is to obtain a seasonal job or a temporay job. Many companies hire on extra help starting in November or even as early as October. Again, you should be putting that money in the HOLIDAY GIFT MONEY envelope! Hopefully, these tips will help turn the Season of DEBT into the Season of JOY for you next year!!

If like many of us,you received a few gift cards for the Holidays, here are a few tips about using them and keeping them safe! You should put the gift cards in a safe place. Remember, they are just like cash! Just remember to take them with you when you go shopping! It is best to use a specific retailer card as soon as possible. You never know in this economy, whether the store will continue to honor the gift card,if it is about to close or is having financial difficulties! The generic cards, such as Visa,Mastercard,American Express, you can hold on to for something special and usually you can combine them and even combine them with a coupon! The idea is to get the most out of the gift card! You can also re-gift the gift card,or use it to purchase a gift for someone else! If you ordered an e-gift card and you have not gotten a Thank You from the recipient, follow up with a phone call or e-mail. The recipient may have accidentally deleted it or it went into "spam " mail. You should have gotten a receipt for the e-gift card and be able to get your money back. There are gift card thieves out there. Scammers copy gift card numbers and check to see if the card has been used. If you are holding onto a gift card for awhile, periodically check on the balance. Turn the card over and you should find a website, where you can check on the balance. The best thing is to use all of the gift cards you receive as soon as possible! Remember, you can also use them online for purchases, saving you a trip to the Mall!!!

Whether you have been married for a long time or been with a significant other in a long term relationship, you begin to realize that giving a Holiday gift is not so easy anymore. Basically, you really have to become creative and think of new and interesting things to give each other. One thing my husband and I are doing this year, is seeing a show. That is our main gift to each other. I always give my husband jelly bellies and pistachios. I know he likes them, and I can get them from my online store. A gift basket that may have something to do with the person's hobbies,or sports. Maybe they are a Nascar Fan or a Motorcycle rider. Maybe the person is Diabetic or is watching their health. Maybe they are a Chocoholic or love spa bath gifts. Gift Certificates that are generic are also a good idea. This way, the person can purchase what they want. Gift Certificates to a Spa or even to a car wash(usually you can buy them in a book of 10 to 12 washes). You do get to a point in any long term relationship that you realize there is not much you need anymore. That's where you need to "think outside the typical Holiday Gift Giving Box"! Happy Gift Giving!

This year gift giving for the Holidays may be very difficult, if not nearly impossible for some people. If you use your imagination, you can still give a gift for everyone on your list by using your imagination & not your money. Print out your own gift certificates on Holiday themed printing paper and give them out to friends & family. Here are some ideas: babysitting, cooking dinner, cleaning house, running errands, picking up a child at school for a friend. Think of what very basic thing the person could really use help with and give it in the form of a gift certificate or gift coupon that you have printed out. Let's say you have a close relative with young children. Print up babysitting coupons, lets say 12. This way once a month, you can give a "break" by sitting for the children. Just use your imagination and think basics-what could I give this person,in terms of my time and services that would be greatly appreciated as a gift. This will cost you only the paper you print the certificate/coupons on and your time. Not your money!! By the way, these gifts will be appreciated more than you can imagine, by the person you give them to! Happy Gift Giving!

So you met someone new recently and you may have only been dating for a month or so-or a few weeks. Things seem to be moving along. Now, here comes the big question-and it's not "What are you doing New Years Eve?" The question is what do I get this person for a holiday gift? Probably, the two of you need to have a conversation. Maybe you both decide that you will set a certain spending limit. This is advisable, especially in very new relationships. You may have to have a discusssion about certain likes & dislikes, food allergies, make the gift practical or more personal. Have this discussion. You don't want to give a gift that may make the other person feel uncomfortable,or indicate that from your viewpoint the relationship is moving much further along than the other person views it. Remember, open line of communication is the key to any good relationship! So, you might as well start now,and have that heart to heart talk about exchanging gifts between the two of you! By the way, if you are invited to a party hosted by your new love's parents or friends, please bring a host/hostess gift. Perhaps a bottle of wine or something edible that can be shared by everyone! Happy Gift Giving!

When January comes, and it will, that is when you will be facing all those Holiday bills!! Here are some tips that I hope will help. Shop online to avoid being seduced by the holiday music, decorations. Stores and Malls do this on purpose to tempt you. What happens is you get caught up in the moment and overspend. Make a list and the amount you feel comfortable spending and STICK TO IT! Use a credit card, and preferably one that gives rewards back. You can put those rewards towards your balance and pay your balance in full when the bill comes! If you do go to a Mall or store, be prepared to be approached by very persuasive sales people.Do not be pushed into buying something you can't afford! Happy Gift Giving!
